Review of Fort Mill, South Carolina

Need honest feedback about living in Fort Mill now
Star Rating - 1/19/2022
Hello. We're thinking of moving to Fort Mill from NJ this summer. My youngest will be a sophomore in high school so the quality of the school system is paramount, as is a low crime rate. I was sold on Fort Mill until I starting reading some of the reviews. In my research I discovered that there is a superfund site in Fort Mill, dioxin contamination stemming from the New Indy plant, PCBs and mercury in the rivers so fish are contaminated, increased drug activity and anti Semitism graffiti at the high schools. Are these issues valid? Is the media overhyping them? Please, can I get a fair review from someone who lives there now. It's already going to be difficult to uproot my daughter from her friends and high school. I would appreciate brutally honest feedback. This move is stressing me out. Thank you.

Did you ever get any more information? We are looking at Fort Mill and Mooresville, NC and our daughter will be going into 8th grade.

Lots of people asking but no on replying . We're in the same boat -- thinking of moving here but having a nuclear power plant and now learning of a superfund site is pretty distressing. We're also worried about not being churchgoers and liberal on the political scale. We like Chapel Hill very much -- same kind of "major, international" vibe that you feel in Palo Alto, CA or Cambridge, MA -- but the prices have just skyrocketed in the last 2 years since we've been thinking about where to retire. We're interested in living in a place where people want to respect and support their neighbors -- ALL of them -- and use their time and talents to create a thriving, well-rounded, happy community.

Fort mill and Indian land are beautiful places to raise a family. Great schools and friendly people and tons of people from the north east. Both of my grown children live in Fort Mill and absolutely love it. We moved to Waxhaw North Carolina nine years ago from New York and haven’t regretted it one day in my life it’s absolutely beautiful. The surrounding towns by me are Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Marvin. They are all great areas also with great school districts. I would think more about visiting for yourself and maybe even joining the Facebook groups and you can learn a lot more. Good luck to you
